The Meaning of the Magician
The Magician is major arcanum 1.
The figure that represents the Magician is a young man - an artisan - who's standing in front of a working table on which some special tools are displayed. The tools on the table are important as they introduce the minor arcana symbols: Cups, Coins, Spares and Wands.
The Magician holds a strange magic wand which represents self-control.
This tarot card symbolizes the active life ingredient and it's number - One - is the male element(Yang).

The Magician Spread
Everyone doesn't go to see a fortune-teller because of love and relationship problems. Indeed, many also come to learn more about their financial situation, their professional position, hopes and fears. Some others come to learn more about health matters.
Therefore we're going to take the example of a man who is looking form some more information regarding his occupation - are there any hopes of promotion? A better job? More responsibilities and thus a higher salary?
For questions, the simple cross is the easiest and most accurate spread.
Let's say that we're spreading the following cards on the table (see picture to the right):
- First card to the left: Justice
- Second card to the right: the Moon
- Third card on top: the Magician
- Fourth card at the bottom of the spread: the Wheel of Fortune
The Justice tells us that our consultant has all cards to succeed in his career - Justice represents stability. The Moon to the right however shows that our consultant should believe more in hiw own capacities and be careful regarding his colleagues are som eof them are whether hypocrites or aim at the same promotion than himself.
The Magician on top of the spread represents the will of our consultant and the Wheel of Fortune is sign of success.
Now what?
Synthesis of our Tarot Cards Spread
Now we're going to do some synthesis of this spread so that we can get a few more information regarding this matter.
For such purpose, we use numerology and sum up the numbers of each cards just like this:
- Justice --> 8
- The Moon --> 18
- The Magician --> 1
- The Wheel of Fortune --> 10
Result = 37
Unfortunately, there is no major arcanum that is numbered 37 ; this is the reason why we're going to sum up 3 + 7 and get a total of 10.
10 represents the Wheel of Fortune; which confirms that, if he keeps doing the same efforts he's currently doing and if he is cautious about his colleagues, our consultant will get the job.

Thank you. The Magician comes up often in my spreads and I needed some alternative views on what "he" might mean, especially in a sample spread. Voted up and (very) useful.
